The Žilina Region has eight restaurants and two of the three highest scores in the show's history. Martin Novák has awarded a full five knives only three times across five seasons, and two of them are here: Oravský Zrub in Nižná on the Orava, from season 5, episode 7, and Piváreň u Kultána in Radoľa from episode 9.
The town of Martin has two entries and both are now closed. Plantáž Bistro, from season 1, episode 7, was never rated, and Koliba Burger & Pizza Rica took zero knives in season 4, one of only four zeros ever given.
Ružomberok did better. California Pub took two knives, Koliba pod Vlkolíncom four, and both are still trading. Four knives also went to U Zlatého Tanku in Divina near Žilina, which was called U Pečalku when it was filmed. Penzión Anesis in Turčianske Teplice completes the eight with three.
The average of 3.3 knives is the third highest of any region, and six of the eight are open.
This is broken country and the roads between the addresses run along valleys. Radoľa to the Orava is an hour and a half, Martin to Ružomberok half an hour. Turčianske Teplice lies between Martin and Kremnica.
